Setting Up The Domain And Host

Alright our website is almost completely ready for our content. Next we need to find a free ftp client so we can upload pages to our sites.

The Best Web Host

I love Hostgator. I haven’t had any problems so far. Once I get the ball rolling, I’ll be updating to the ‘business’ service.

Setting up a website is cheap. For the domain from Dynadot.com we paid $11.25. For hosting we paid $7.95 for a month. So for the year it costs us $106.65 (or $8.89 a month) to run a website. And the good news is, you can host as many domain names as you want. You just have to pay the $11.25 to register each new domain.

We’ll definitely make back our investment.

How To Choose A Domain Name & Company Name

Notes About Domain Names & Company Names:

  • I prefer .com domain names, but you can also use .net.
  • Make sure you get domain privacy (it costs an extra $2). It protects your contact information from spammers.
  • If you want to test a bunch of different websites, you can buy a generic domain like, info.com (it’s not available). Then you can set up subdomains like diets.info.com and computers.info.com. It’s very easy to set this up using your host – which we’ll talk about in the next video.
  • Your company name should be at least slightly related to your subject. If it’s not, you’re going to have to create a super strong brand name and identity – Google, Yahoo, Apple, etc.

My Muse Idea & Finding A Niche

Resources for finding a niche and coming up with ideas:

1. The 4 Hour Work Week

Big section on coming up with muse ideas and testing them. This is the book that inspired the site.

2. Infomillionaire

For the price of shipping, you get a complete package in the mail that will walk you through everything from start to finish. I haven’t tried it, but I’ve heard it’s the perfect starting ground for a newbie.

3. Thirty Day Challenge

This is a great, free resource. Just sign up with your email address and you have more than 30 days of lessons. Also download their software, Market Samurai, and get the ‘Black Book’ free eBook that comes along with it.

4. You can also explore: Amazon.com and Ebay.com to get an idea of what’s selling online.

Notes:

I’m not trying to set myself up as an expert on this stuff. I’m learning as I go along.

Please offer your pearls of wisdom in the comments below if you have them. Fire the questions at me and let’s get the discussion going.

Finding The Muse

TalkMuse.com is a blog dedicated to developing businesses and websites that produce passive income. These businesses are the ‘muse’.

Over the next several months I’ll walk you through my experiments with creating a profitable muse that will allow me to do the things I love. No matter what your situation is in life or in your career, you’ll benefit from watching over my shoulder. You’ll see all my mistakes and successes. Most importantly, I hope I’ll inspire you to create your own muse.

I’ll be updating the blog with videos and articles. If you haven’t already read The Four Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss, I suggest you do so. It will help tremendously in understanding my mindset. There’s a link to book on Amazon.com on the right hand sidebar of Talkmuse.com.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions, criticize my decisions, and contribute to the discussion. Let’s make this an honest, open, community – not a ‘get rich fast’ scam.

Thanks for watching.
